I'm Writing To Tell You...
Been a while since I posted anything on here!
Just thought I would do a bit of daily life blogging as I have a tiny bit of spare time, and also I’m bored.
Firstly, today is my boyfriend’s birthday! Happy birthday, boyfriend.
PLAYING
Recently, I bought a Gameboy Advance, so I’ve been playing a lot of GBA games. This has been really fun, and it’s let me fit gaming into my schedule more (so I can game on my work commute, hooray!). Previously I basically just wouldn’t play any video games during the semester, partially because I didn’t have time / was exhausted, and partially because I didn’t want to risk getting obsessed with a game and therefore procrastinating the actual work I have to do. Having a handheld console (particularly with such a physical component of cartridges, and no internet/bluetooth functionality) has somehow helped me to put down the games and focus on work, and then have game time when I can. It seems like it shouldn’t have worked out this way, but it has.
I guess it helps that a lot of GBA games are really difficult, and I keep having to rage quit. The Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) Genesis port to GBA is notoriously laggy and annoying, but I just got past Marble Zone today, so things are looking up. The original NES Castlevania port is also killing me. I only have 2 bosses left, as far as I know, but I think my motivation is dropping off. I can see why nobody ever finishes this.
Aside from the Gameboy, I’ve been playing Marathon 2: Durandal on my Xbox, which has honestly been awesome. I still love FPS games, and Marathon’s story has been really interesting. My partner and I have been slowly making our way through Sonic Superstars when we have the time, which has been… interesting. Glad to see the trend of Sonic games just being unplayable sometimes is still continuing.

WATCHING
Honestly, I’ve been really slacking on my Deep Space 9 watch. I’m still somewhere in Season 2, I think? I’m definitely enjoying it, I’ve just got a lot on, and way less time to myself than I did before – not a bad thing, just a thing!
In the house we have being watching Castlevania, Dropout shows (new Gamechanger episode was totally unhinged), and Word of Honor because my boyfriend likes C-Dramas (and I truly get it now).
A few weeks ago there was a major cyclone heading towards my city, so we all had to stay inside for several days (accompanied by not being able to buy toilet paper or eggs or bottled water, because people are… frustrating…). Not that it’s easy to buy eggs in general at the moment anyway – paid $15 for a dozen the other day. Anyway, because we all had to stay home, we watched a few movies: Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase (really fun, honestly), Johnny Mnemonic (not as good as I’d hoped it would be?), and Strange Days (brilliant, can’t stop thinking about it).

LISTENING
In terms of podcasts, I have now caught up on Red Valley, which has seriously taken a very interesting turn. It’s a great show and I can’t recommend it enough, so if you enjoy science fiction and mystery, give it a listen!
Music-wise, it’s goth/post-punk and electronic/vaporwave for me at the moment. This year I’ve been listening to a lot of The Sisters of Mercy. I’ve also been listening to FM Skyline and death’s dynamic shroud, particularly the album I’ll Try Living Like This, which I’ve just bought a CD of.
And a quick shout-out to Sonic music for getting me out of bed in the mornings and giving me a will to live, as usual.
Here’s a link to a playlist I made recently, with beach-themed Sonic music (plus one FM Skyline song).
Here’s a link to another playlist of goth/post-punk for dancing to!

OTHER STUFF
What else is going on? I have a tattoo of Godzilla booked for April 22nd. Very excited for it!! I have been taking a translation course so I can actually finish my language major, which has been very difficult but quite rewarding.

That's all I have to say, I think.
